Before you listen: Please, note the highlighted words below. Their pronunciation is different in Kannada English. Try to pay attention when you listen to them, because most Indian people will pronounce them in this way. Remember that 1) in Kannada English, all -ed endings are clearly pronounced 2) ma'am, mam, sir are used in almost every sentence 3) many speakers add Kannada words into their English 4) all th sounds become t or d.

Tip: In India, almost everyone pronounces the word as "plumBer" (with a "b" sound). It is not correct in other types of English, where it is known as "a silent B," but in India, it's important to pronounce it, or you may not be understood!



[On the phone with the plumber for the first time:]

Mausami (M): Hello, I am Mausami. I am calling from Flat no. 303, Gulmohar Apartment. The tap in my bathroom is leaking. Could you please come and check?

Plumber (P): Hello? Who is this?

M: I am Mausami from Flat no. 303, Gulmohar Apartment.

P: Gulmohar apartment in Jayanagar?

M: No, Gulmohar apartment in Koramangala.

P: Ah, ok ok. What happened madam?

M: The tap in my bathroom is leaking. Could you come and check it?

P: Ok Madam. I will come after 2 p.m.

M: Can't you come now, please? A lot of water is leaking and going waste.

P: Now is difficult madam. I will come after half an hour. Ok madam?
